Torture Free Teaching Environment (TFTe) Framework for K-10 Schools

Torture Free Teaching Environment (TFTe

Once, I made a statement in a Teacher's Workshop I attended in Kathmandu, "Nepalese Schools are more torturous than the police stations and jails in developed Countries". Then it followed a massive discussion, going deeper and deeper. The discussion was so hot and there was very serious debate but as the conclusion, it was realized that there is truth in the statement and we needed change. Mostly, youngsters were advocating the need for change but the few senior educators had their reservations.

The most devastating moment is when you realize the dire need for change but you don't know how. As an educator, I always wanted to work for the emancipation of students from the meaningless series of Corporal Punishments, rooted as Guru-Shishya culture. My search and study for the solution could not find any tailored concrete measures on hand that could be workable for Nepalese schools.

TFTe Implementation Framework for K-10 Schools

So, I, along with my fellow educator colleague Shiva Shrestha, devised the Torture Free Teaching Environment (TFTe) Framework and implemented in our school – Golden Gate English Secondary School. Then, we also got opportunities to pilot it in a few more schools within Kathmandu Valley and outside as well. The concept is basically inspired by Buddhism and based on Counseling Psychology.

I believe the present TFTe Framework will be of great help for the innovative educators who like to question the Status Quo and improve the school system by redefining Discipline in schools.

Thank you so much.
